About Me

Nick Wadler – that dude who's always taking photos on the back deck of the ferry

A Quick Bio

I was born in San Mateo, California. I took a special interest in photography and got my first 35mm camera at 14. After learning the basics of black and white processing and printing in high school art classes, I polished my skills at the Pacific Northwest college of art and then Chabot Jr. college in Hayward. Finally I decided to make a career out of my photography and enrolled in the incredible photojournalism department at SFSU, where I received a BA in photojournalism.

While I was in college, photography began to change. I can remember the first huge, clunkey, Kodak negative scanner SFSU purchased for the students. This was my first experience digitizing images and using Photoshop. Now digital cameras are the norm and my experience in school gave me an early start. I am proficient in film and digital photography.

What I Do

My photographic interests are diverse. I enjoy shooting news, sports, nature, cultural events, landscapes, architecture and documentary.

Landscapes

From the Pacific Ocean to the High Sierra, Northern California provides wonderful opportunities to shoot beautiful photos. Where ever I roam, I always bring my camera so I can capture the unique beauty of our state. As a fellow ferry rider, you may have seen me out on back deck taking some shots.

Nature

I have always been interested in ecology. The plants and animals that coexist with us in the our world are as interesting and beautiful as their surroundings. I capture these special moments without interrupting their environment.

Commercial

With a documentary style, I've taken many photos of interior commercial spaces, exteriors, products, and professional portraits. With a keen sense of lighting, I really can make your real estate listings stand out. I also understand that candid photos work extremely well for social media.

Photojournalism

Unscripted reality - I'm adept at capturing action as it is happening. I understand the ins and outs of access while respecting the privacy and boundaries of those I'm shooting. When, shooting, I understand that it's best when you are a fly on the wall, and no one notices you are there.

Panoramic

These always look great framed and up on a wall. Great shots really spelling out the bigger picture.
